Hot Pot

It’s still a freezing day today; the temperature has dropped down to 17-Celsius degree. It’s the best time to eat the spicy hot pot,
some of my friends and I decided to have it as our dinner. We were so hungry and excited. We can’t wait to start our meal. Thanks to our reservation, we could start our meal first, whereas some people have to wait until the other people had finished their meal.

That spicy hot pot is very famous; there are always full of people on weekends. It happens that the temperatures of these days were really cold, and it caused lots of people to eat hot pot. We were no exceptional. It was such an amazing thing that eating hot pot in such a cold weather. All of us felt satisfied and happy.

Freezing is zero degrees centigrade, not 17 degrees. For those of us from the icy and snowy north, 17 degrees centigrade is merely cool.

Verb tense problems with these two sentences: "We were so hungry and excited. We can’t wait to start our meal." "can't" should be "couldn't". And the same problem with "some people have to wait": it should be "some people had to wait".

"That spicy hot pot is very famous; there are always full of people on weekends." This makes no sense at all. It sounds as if the pot is always full of people on weekends. You went to a restaurant, so you should say "The spicy hot pot that the XYZ restaurant serves is very famous; the restaurant is always full of people on weekends."

"It happens that" is a verbosity in this paragraph. Just delete these words.

"the temperatures of these days were really cold," is a windy way of saying "It's been cold lately".

"It's been cold lately, which has made lots of people want to eat hot pot. We were no exception." This is the way to express the next two ideas.

"in such a cold weather" is wrong: delete the article "a" and say "in such cold weather".

I don't understand people in Tainan. They complain about the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. Neither one is very bad. The word "winter", in fact, is a joke here. There is no winter. Sure, it gets cold for a couple of weeks between November and March, but it never snows and it never freezes down here in Tainan.

And in the hot season, the temperature isn't very high. The problem isn't the heat but the humidity.

I love the weather here in Tainan. It's almost always perfect for me. I like it much better than the hot, dry weather in California and Nevada.

But I don't like hot pot, not even in the winter. I like hot soup when the weather's chilly, and hot tea and hot coffee and hot chocolate, but hot pot is just too annoying for me to eat. My wife loves hot pot. When we go out to a restaurant, though, I never take her to a hot pot place.
